ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The right credits for your sustainability strategy

The Misiones J-REDD program is a provincial government–led initiative to reduce deforestation and forest degradation in the Paraná Atlantic Forest of northeastern Argentina. Bordering Brazil and Paraguay, Misiones contains some of the largest remaining tracts of this globally significant forest.

The province is home to one of the largest remaining jaguar populations in Argentina, giant otters, over 2,000 plant species, and supports more than 100 communities — including 1,500+ Guaraní families — who depend on forest resources.

Program components

How the program works



Provincial REDD+ Strategy

Binding policy reforms targeting the main drivers of deforestation — agricultural expansion and illegal logging — with measurable, reportable outcomes.



Benefit Sharing Mechanism

A transparent, equitable revenue-sharing structure redistributing carbon revenues to forest owners, indigenous communities, and smallholders via Banco Macro.

ďžż

MRV
System

Independent Monitoring, Reporting and Verification processes ensure the accuracy, credibility, and integrity of all emissions reductions before credits are issued.



Safeguards & Biodiversity

Full compliance with UNFCCC Cancun Safeguards, protecting a global biodiversity hotspot and ensuring rights of indigenous peoples are respected throughout.

Additionality & verification

Rigorous methodology, independently verified

The program’s Forest Reference Emission Level (FREL) is calculated through a technically rigorous, transparent methodology — tracking net native forest loss from 2009–2014 and converting it to annual baseline emissions using transition-specific net emission factors.

Additionality is demonstrated through newly enacted provincial legislation and documented reductions in deforestation rates — verified by an independent Verra-accredited VVB. Leakage risk is assessed as low, given stable production dynamics and the absence of suitable forest frontiers elsewhere in Argentina.

CORSIA pathway

Structured pathway to aviation-sector eligibility

Misiones VCUs are on a structured pathway to CORSIA Phase 1 and 2 eligibility. Argentina is issuing a Letter of Authorisation designating Misiones VCUs for international mitigation use — enabling aviation-sector buyers to retire credits with full regulatory coverage.

Verra-authorised insurance against double-claim risk is being arranged, providing additional protection for institutional buyers.
